I just noticed in a previous post how similar the words politician and pollution are when my spelling abilities temporarily lapsed. With that in mind, I wrote letters to my two Texas state senators this week for their political pollution in blocking the energy bill provision that would support renewable energy standards. We could have this week to support getting these renewable energy tax credits and standards re-entered into the bill- please call your Senators now.
I certainly understand the pressure large, existing corporations put on our politicians, but seriously, do gasoline producers need a lot of tax incentives to stay viable?
“Republican Sens. Kay Bailey Hutchison and John Cornyn, who said they do not oppose a federal mandate for clean energy sources, have nevertheless blocked it by preventing the energy bill from going to a conference committee. They oppose separate provisions that would repeal tax incentives for oil and gas producers.
“I can’t let a bill go without assurances that those tax increases that target the production of gasoline will be eliminated,” Ms. Hutchison said.”
Exxon and PetroChina are among the largest corporations in the world. Are they going to go out of business if they have to pay the same taxes as other corporations? Or will Exxon threaten to move it headquarters out of Irving, Texas and harumph over to another state if they don’t get enough of a cheap ride here?
It’s time to support growing businesses instead of only the powerful and polluting.

There is still time to let members of Congress know that we stand behind the Energy Bill. Go to http://energybill2007.us and sign the petition for better CAFE and RES in the NEAR future, not down the road like many presidential candidates are proposing.
