For the last few weeks leading up to the 2007 G8 summit, I’ve read a lot of articles about different posturing by the US and occasional other G8 nations that don’t want to agree to emissions controls. Bush rolled out an optional plan for developed and developing nations to perhaps follow, if they sort of felt like it, and then what happens? Threats of nuclear war! Issues over Russia bombing Europe in retaliation for the US placing missile defense radars in Eastern Europe! Drama, cold-war, excitement! Once again, the global warming crisis is drowned out in the hubbub of a more exciting threat, a threat that feels more immediate- a bomb tomorrow hurts more than drowned cities in 50 years, right?
