The Supreme Court hugs a tree

April 3rd, 2007 · No Comments ·

I’m in awe of the Supreme Court decision today: Not only does the EPA have the ability to act on automobile emissions, but it also has the requirement. The EPA has a new boss- they’ve answered to the bush regime, now they can answer to the trees again.
I’ve wondered before how any environmental agency can regulate gases that are a bi-product of humans breathing - limiting the mechanical, non-human sources of the emissions is a workable start. Today also opens the door for regulations on polluting power plants; perhaps this Supreme Court ruling will help even the playing field for renewable energy. If the established coal plants become more expensive due to necessary retrofitting requirements, wind and solar energy should become even more competitive. I love to see the future happening.
