I learned a new word with this article about novel ways to counter the effects of global warming: geoengineering. While I don’t think people should fear wind turbines, I worry about deliberately changing the atmosphere.  A nobel-prize winning scientist wants to shoot sulphur missiles into the atmosphere to imitate the sun-reflecting effects of our melting ice caps. It’s a lot of effort to counteract the global warming created by the massive amounts of carbon dioxide we’re releasing with our fossil fuel dependent lifestyle. This feels a little like putting a band-aid on a broken leg- it doesn’t fix the underlying problem. Why keep the same lifestyle and create more and more elaborate methods to support our un-sustainability? It’s time to go to the source of the problem, no matter how unpopular, and change behavior.
No sun = No global warming
