It’s hard to believe that communities don’t want wind turbines, but Heather Green and Mark Scott wrote an interesting article for Business Week on this issue. Communities are worrying about bird migrations, noise and the pretty horizon, but I think the ultimate issue is the fear of change and of the unknown. I’m sure the windmills in the Netherlands weren’t built for their beauty, but rather for their practicality and usefulness. Yet those same windmills are a major tourist attraction now. Wind turbines as a source of energy are so preferrable to the non-renewable alternatives such as coal and nuclear energy; it’s time to stop the bureaucracy.
